Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly estimate the size of a reproducing amplitude symmetry fluctuation amt. associated with recording and reproducing for many times by experimentally finding a correlation between a ratio of a reproducing amplitude symmetry change to a fluctuation of a bias current or external magnetic field intensity in using many MR heads and the reproducing amplitude symmetry fluctuation amt. associated with the recording and reproducing for many times. SOLUTION: A bias current I 1 is made to flow into the MR head 14 to be measured, and a reproducing amplitude symmetry A 1 is found. Then, a bias current I 2 is made to flow, and a reproducing amplitude summery A 2 is obtained. A reproducing amplitude symmetry changing ratio (a) is calculated from the values A 1 and A 2 , and a correlation C between this ratio and a reproducing amplitude symmetry fluctuation amt. (b) associated with the recording and reproducing for many times is experimentally obtained and is stored in a storage means 12. Now that the ratio a' of the reproducing amplitude symmetry change to the external magnetic field intensity change and the reproducing amplitude symmetry fluctuation amt. b' associated with the recording and reproducing for many times are well corresponding to each other, this ratio a' is used instead of the ratio (a), and since the fluctuation amt. b' is obtained by measuring the ratio a', the estimation can thus be performed in a short time.
