PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a highly accurate inspection with a uniform illuminance free from malfunction by a method wherein a vertical optical axis is arranged at an end face as object, the object is irradiated with a light beam high in parallelism in a photographing range to achieve a uniform dimensional accuracy in the end face as a whole. SOLUTION: An image pickup device 2 is arranged vertically at the center of an end face 1 as object while an irradiator 3 is arranged to irradiate the end face 1 as object in a photographing range with a light beam high in parallelism having an optical axis perpendicular to the end face 1. As the end face 1, top surface part of a port part 101 of a resin bottle made of a polyester resin is inspected. The image pickup device 2 is arranged vertically at the center of the end face 1 and a point face part of the port part 101 is made round and the magnification is increased enough to house the object as a whole thereby uniformizing lighting with a higher accuracy. The irradiator 3 employs a light beam high in parallelism having a vertical optical axis with limited scattered light. This allows increase in the area of a light source or use of a linear filter.
